![]() ![]() Woohoo! Digging down a little bit we found this really bright blue mineral - anyone have an idea what it is? It is very very pretty bright light blue, looks fairly solid and uniform but is very brittle and crumbly and easily crushed. WHen I got home and got it all wet and cleaned off a bit, almost every piece had some ruby in it that I just couldn't see when it was dry and dusty. Pretty funny though, I saved a whole bunch of the green rock thinking it was pretty just as it was. It was pretty easy to spot the green smaragdite but we only found 1 tiny bit of pink in a half day of digging and breaking open rocks. Not ever having been there before, we weren't sure exactly what we were looking for. You could tell that there had been a big fire on the mountain in the last year or so, but it didn't affect the area where we were looking. We didn't get skunked, but for $60 it's a pretty small haul but now I can say I found my own sapphires, tiny as they are. ![]() We were there from 8 am until about 2 pm and found these bits, most are too small to do anything with. We paid $60 for 2 adults, all the dirt you can dig, use of running water sluice, etc. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed here. Thanks, everyone, for the recommendations and input. We did it - finally got to the Franklin NC area. ![]()
